Community Service

Bertrand Cadart is always eager to support the community in any way he can and aims to attend as many local events as possible. He is genuinely interested in what is going on in the electorate of Lyons.

Bertrand has a long association with the Bicheno RSL and credits his involvement with this organisation for propelling him into the world of politics.

He joined the RSL in 2003 and was president in 2004-2005. He is still a member today. Bertrand considers his main achievement during his time on the committee was his ability to use his conciliatory skills to help those who didn’t always see eye to eye.

Bertrand’s time as President fuelled his passion for the community and eventually this led him to local government.

Bertrand also supports various charities and not-for-profit organisations. The annual Toy Run, organised by the Motorcycle Riders Association of Tasmania, is one of Bertrand’s favourite events as it combines his love of riding with his commitment to help those in need.

Riders from all over the state converge on the Derwent Entertainment Centre on Hobart’s Brooker Highway and then ride ‘en-masse’ into Hobart to donate toys and other items to the Salvation Army. Bertrand has six toy runs under his belt and plans on riding in many more!

He has also been heavily committed to the Black Dog Ride which raises awareness of depression. Bertrand has lead the ride since the inaugural event between Campbell Town and Bicheno.

Irwin

Bertrand has a soft spot for animals and supports a number of animal welfare causes and other charities.

Bertrand and his fiancée Catherine have sponsored a 6 month old golden retriever in France called Irwin who is being trained to assist people with disabilities.

Catherine, who has fully trained more than 30 dogs for the blind, was also involved in helping to train Irwin before she arrived in Tasmania in December 2013.

Bertrand and Catherine also sponsor a donkey in refuge near Launceston.
